What’s So Funny About Survival?

My First Blacklist Coverage

I’m surprised that the pilot of my series, Shall Not Perish, would be described as a “black comedy” in my Blacklist coverage – but, there you have it. It was shocking, somewhat funny, and a waste of money to have a story that centers on the end of slavery in American compared to The Great. (Even though I love that series!)

The reader also mistook the lack of capitalization in one character’s dialog as “grammatical errors” instead of understanding it indicated the character’s diminished of voice. And they criticized that the three family’s storylines didn’t come together, even though in the fourth act, two of the families explicitly DO come together. It was such a glaring error that I’m not convinced the reader actually finished the script.

On the upside, the reader did mention the descriptions contained some “unfilmables” that should be corrected. I appreciate that advice and the latest draft reflects those ideas.

The long and short of it is, I knew going in that it would be a crap-shoot to get a reader who would understand the premise. So I appreciate the advice I can use and am grateful that the $100 fee was something I could afford.

However, I may have learned my lesson about that particular coverage option.

If you’d like to read the script, contact me.
